Anybody growing this plant (Thalictrum flavum) in Scotland? When and how long does it flower and does it need staking? What soil, sun or shade? Much obliged,
Mariska, Aberdeen

On plant Thalictrum flavum

Andrewr grows this. It's a perennial for moist soil in semi shade. I don't think it has any preference for acid/alkaline soil. It grows up to four feet, so it might need some support. It flowers in summer - you'll see his photos at the bottom of the page.

I only planted this last spring so I've only been growing it for one season. Unless it is in a very sheltered position, I would be inclined to support it - I put in a short cane and loosely tied it to that. Flowering period was about three weeks from memory

I have had the native /wild flower in an earlier garden. It got to 3ft and i never staked it. it was in full sun in a chalky moderately moist soil. the flowers lasted between 2-4 weeks depending on how wet it was.
I dont grow it in my current garden but it was a pretty plant.

How do I say thanks?
