No, if they need to be encouraged to flower then you would need to do that as they appear. After flowering I would feed with half strength Liquid manure type stuff.

We don't feed ours at all and they mutiply every year. Not as far on as yours though.

Thank you both. This photo was taken last year, the flower buds are just starting to show colour now. I wanted to know the answer to the question but I also wanted to test that I could now post both questions and the relevant photos at the same time. It works. Owdboggy are you saying I need to feed with something now or when they come through the ground. They are going to flower. I can see the flower heads there. I thought I might need to feed half strength tomato food as the flowers die back to build up the bulb to produce next years flowers.

If they are growing well then feeding ought not to be needed, after all they get no extra in the wild. However if your soil is at all impoverished or the bulbs are getting smaller and fewer then feed. After flowering is done with a general purpose liquid feed to build up the bulb. A Tomorite (high Potash) one would be useful just as the spikes break the ground. BUT again only if necessary. They often do better if not too well fed.

Thank you Owdboggy. Good point about them maybe not needing to be fed. I have a few out in flower in the front garden which are doing fine. They were newly planted in autumn 2012. I also have F. michailovsky and F. uva vulpis syn. F. assyriaca in pots planted at the same time and they are just coming on now. The F. Regina is also about to flower for the first time in the garden and two pots are both just starting to grow. I seem to have inadvertantly started a new collection.
