I have a Dipladenia Mandevilla in a container with a support. However it has grown considerably and is now so top heavy that it is at the point of falling over. I have read that you are not supposed to cut them back, is this correct? What do you recommend that I do? Any advise would be helpful.

can you repot it into a much larger pot? this will allow you to give it a more sturdy support system too.
If you do prune it,I think it oozes sap so be careful not to get it on your skin.
I have one that got cut back 2 yrs ago, not by much, but it is doing well despite that.
