which Helibore is this?
I bought some of these in the autumn and they were unnamed. The foliage is quite 'chunky'. as you can see the flower is greenish with a purpish edge to the petal.

If the leaves are unpleasantly scented then it could be a good form of H. foetidus

I didnt think of crushing the leaf. Job for tomorrow. I also thought it was more finely cut. Thanks.

Just eliminating the possibilities. There are other Hellebores which look a little like this.

Looks like foetidus with a rather dark leaf. In fact, it can only be foetidus.

thats why i was asking :o)
the flower is very pretty and it will be interesting to see how it opens.
I have H foetida 'Wester Flisk' and it has a finely cut leaf so thats what made me wonder if this was the same species.
