Hi Barb,
Just scrape a little bark off the stems of your Fuchsia to check if they are still alive,
if all is well there will be some green just under the bark,
if not the stems are probably dead , but don't give up for a while as Fuchsias will often send up new growth from below the soil level,
To check this, do the same below the surface of the soil,

mine are only just starting to shoot but from below soil level. so id wait a while yet. but dont over water them or the roots will become waterlogged and die.

Through the winter I only spray with tepid water the fuchsias I take indoors .

I agree, if there are no leaves you shouldn't water every day or you may starve the roots of oxygen by drowning them. But spraying the brown stems gently with tepid water may help.Were you able to keep it pretty cool and dry over the winter? Don't put it in full hot sun, it will do better with a little shade in the hottest part of the day. Some start into growth before others so don't despair yet.

I wish I had found it years ago. :) I will check in the morning so I can scrape the older shoots and check if they are green underneath. Fingers crossed. Funny thing is, it seemed fine while it was in my house. I only watered it once a month. (in a cool semi-light & w/ consistent temps) But once I placed it outside I was told to cut it back again. I'm glad I was warned about over-watering it. I did change the location to a slightly shadier spot. Which will allow it, morning to 12pm sun. I'm wondering if it stunted the growth. Wish me luck! Don't know what your climate's like, but it's too early to plant them outside here. You don't cut them back fully until you can see the new green shoots at the base.

I tried to scrape a bit of bark back. No luck... I even check at the bottom of the stems, dry dry dry.. also they came off the soil with little effort.. :( I definitely killed the poor thing :(
I was not aware, as a read in a recent post, that I was suppose to wait for the shoots to come up prior to any pruning.
On another note, I have purchased two more Fushia plants, and I'm willing to give it another go.. Fushia plants are so beautiful, and I love watching the humming birds come by. I'm having some difficulties uploading my pictures to this site. I'm sure it's because I'm using my iPhone instead if my laptop.
I have gardens that surround the foundation of my home, as well as 2 rock wall top & bottom gardens. One kidney shape out in the front lawn, and my latest (last fall) I placed another (circular)on the back/side of the yard, in a shadier spot. I've been learning as I go. It's been 10 yrs since the purchase of my home,(and lately I've been saying if I ever had to move there's going to be one very large pod for all these plants). I'm just really starting to understand the planning of the colors and heights. Using more perennials, with annuals for color splash. Much cheaper!! Hopefully I'll be able to place some photos up soon for all to see & any input or help in shaping or assistance with coordinating heights & color will be greatly appreciated.?
