Has anyone got a standard red current tree? If so,
do they fruit well?

They fruit most heavily as cordons against a wall for me.
The new shoots grow out and hide the fruit from the birds!
And as they fruit on the old wood there is no problem keeping them to shape. If you grow a standard you'll probably have to net it if you want to gather the fruit yourself!
