Its a stunning colour isn't it. How hardy is it? any ideas?

Well it must be fairly hardy because it looked so healthy in the walled garden at Glendoick, East of Perth!

I bought one last May, and it's flowering now. And Plantaholic recently posted a photo of one in bloom

Very hardy and supposedly very very easy from seed. So, why is it that I can get the seed to germinate when sown fresh, but fail utterly to manage to get it to grow on? I have no trouble with Lathyrus vernus in its different coloured forms, but L. aureus beats me.
