We have lived in our home for over 40 years and this has been the first time we have found tons of toad stools in our garden - since we don't know how they got there - we just pull them out with a rake and hope they never come back but why after all these years do we have them in the first place?

Thanks - I found the answers to be comical - laughter is the best medicine for anyone. Thanks again.

Have you been using bark chips on the garden? Or bought in any organic compost from anywhere? Sometimes these contain fungi strands which then produce the fruiting bodies (toadstools). Has the weather been unusually damp - another possible cause. Or else it really is the fairies and gnomes... lol

Oh I so agree with you Bamboo, put some farmyard manure on mine - lovely fungi when I did.

I get fungi from time to time over the year, I just ignore them and they seem to go. As for why you get them its part of nature. I am more surprised that in 40 years this is the first time you have had any!
