I have an old copper currently in the garden and empty. I was wondering if the fact that it is copper will be detrimental to certain plants, I was thinking about an Acer.

Thanks in anticipation.

I'm afraid it will be detrimental to any plant, unless there's some kind of lining within that prevents contact with the copper outside. Any lining you add to it would need to be bot impermeable and firmly welded to the copper on the outside, or there's a high risk that the copper will perfuse through the water within the compost.
