Hi again guys!
I have just fixed up an old half barrel as a water feature with plants. I followed Charlie Dimmock's advice, painting the inside with bitumen paint. Now the surface of the water is a just a little oily. Am not sure whether to simply soak up the oil with newspaper (which works) or to change the water. Will it harm my plants?

if you just have plants in the barrel then changing the water wont harm them. if you have fish then let the water stand for 48 hrs to allow the 'chlorine' to escape.
