Hi Christina, welcome to g o y, the pictures are a bit blurred, but I think it could be a self seeded cornflower, Centaurea cyanus, if you haven't sown them it's a present from the birds, see what others think, Derek.

yeah its Nigella i looked it up, I take it a bird dropped it as i never planted it. thanks for all the comments so quickly.

As i only have 3 flowers i am certainly going to buy more as they are beautiful and i love the name :)

the 3 you have will produce lots of seed, when the pod is dry it will split open and shake the seeds about. or you can collect it and sow it where you want them.
I grew Nigella from new seed 10 yrs ago. I have never needed to buy any more. A wonderful plant. makes a brill cut flower too.

Definitely Nigella. We have lived in this house now for 8 years, and before us the owners must have had some, because the darned seeds STILL come up all over the place, lawns included. Yes, I KNOW it's pretty, but for me it's just a darned nuisance. I thought the saying was "One year's seeding, seven year's weeding." This is just a step too far. ;o)
