Please can anyone identify this plant (or is it a weed) for me? It appeared from nowhere and quickly grew to be about 3ft tall. It is now starting to flower from the 'pom pom' buds.

Phlomis russeliana I think, an evergreen perennial, the seed heads are often used for dried flower arrangements.

Thanks all of you. I had not heard of phlomis but now I have looked it up and it is certainly the russeliana. It's actually quite magnificent so I think I will collect some of the seeds to grow on next year.
