ty bamboo for reply but, it is a 20 ft tree in the ground .wondered would it help to prune the branches 2 of 5 which now have no leaves..

I'd wait until the weather warms before cutting it at all - check it in late April and cut back then if you need to. I'm slightly puzzled as to why its waterlogged now - if the plant is 20 years old, why hasn't it been waterlogged before - just curious! It didn't occur to me it was in the ground, I assumed it was in a pot.

it got waterlogged because of an under ground drainage water pipe from a flat roof was leaking.so the rain water was soaking the roots. hope i found out not to late...ty
