I have lovely roses in my garden but do not know how to care for them. do I cut the heads of when the flower dies or do I leave it to fall off? I hate to think I will only get one flower per stem each year.

If you look carefully at the rose flower, the first leaves below are oflen only three, look just below this and there are five, these are true leaves and if you cut above these and below the three it should encourage a side shoot and hopefully a new flower,
Put roses into the search box top right to find all the mention about roses on Goy.......you may need a cuppa theres quite a bit of info......

Hi Alen, dead head them as they fade, but don't just take off the dead flower, prune it back to a true leaf, as Pamg says, or if you have very long stems and you eel they could get a bit top heavy, you can cut them lower down the stem, again back to a true leaf, round about november time you can give them a prune, reducing them by about 1 third, to prevent wind rock, then round about march you can reduce them further, pruning to an outward facing bud, the idea of this is to try and produce a bowl shape with the centre as open as possible, as roses like as much air all around them as possible, which helps to prevent diseases, Derek.

Thanks to everyone for your advice on cutting my roses. Now that the rain has finally given way to good weather up here in Scotland, I shall be out in my garden this weekend tidying up my rosé bushes. Thank You.
