Just a point - i got some insecticide a few years ago but when I read the instructions, was so concerned about the possibility of killing bees and other insects ( except aphids ) that I abandoned that idea. I guess it's hard to squash them on Million Bells but that's what I do now. The hosepipe is pretty effective too.

First, I'd advise buying a systemic insecticide spray which deals with aphids to treat your million bells - don't spray when they're in the sun, or if its windy, and do it preferably at the end of the day when the bees have stopped working. Spray all stems and leaves (as far as possible), including the undersides, but don't spray the open flowers. Washing up liquid is also a chemical treatment, just not as effective - it will kill on contact, but won't keep anything off ten minutes later. Second, if you want to buy pansies now, you can - they're sold as summer bedding as well as winter bedding.
