I have a 10 yr old Kolkwitzia which is lovely & has just flowered, it is about 6' x 6'. My old Readers digest book says 'remove some older flowering stems' but I think this would be difficult as it is very dense, but it does need making a lot smaller! Help please.

I chopped mine down from 9ft. to 6 inch high stumps one year. Of course, the next year I got no flower, but the year after it was magnificent.

I just let my Kolkwitzias get on with it...some are 15 foot tall and have been superb this year. Never ever pruned them.
