Fractal's right, evergreen, and rampant once it gets going. Flowers March/April. One called 'Appleblossom' has is pink-ish in bud opening white. There are many other evergreen clematis, but none so vigorous or large of leaf.
Does it have to be clematis? Sunny spot? Considered trachelospermum jasminoides (evergreen, mid-late summer flower, very scented)

Thank you. But I forgot to say the wall is in the shade.
Worthy, will the Trachelspurmum grow in shade, and is it fairly hardy.

Evergreen climber for shade is one of the trickiest plant challenges! I would be inclined toward a Hedera colchica or Hydrangea seemanii...both are vigorous once established. The beautiful clematis armandii won't flower well for you in shade....sadly! But it does cope with part shade. It's not that great with cold wind....but then neither is the Hydrangea! Good luck...not an easy situation!

For evergreen, there is none better than C. _armandii_. It does put on a spurt of growth. Give it a wall (with support) and it will romp away. It has the added advantage of a good scent.
