Good Afternoon....Help again please. I have a shrub growing in a small herb garden, which I think is Rosemary, and I have on occasions put a sprig into Lamb joints, but my neighbour is adamant its Lavender. Is there a sure fire way of distinguishing the two. I cannot tell by smell alone as they both smell very similar.

That is definitely Lavender, the flower spikes are too big for Rosemary, Rosemary flowers are 2 lipped, and are produced on short, few flowered, axillary whorls, Derek.

Well you certainly seem adamant too so I will bow to your knowledge,it did us no harm when I used it with Lamb, but I will now get a proper Rosemary. Thank you so much

You can use lavender in cooking too if you want to.

No - it must have made an interesting flavour. Its more usually used in dessert things, though I've never done it, have you?

No Stera. I was once given shortbread with lavender flowers in it and found it a very odd taste.
