I have several small beds of hidcot lavender. It is rather untidy falling almost flat. Also the flowers are not fully out yet. Altogether rather disappointing. Am wondering if I would be better planting Richard Grey next year?

I wouldn't give up on the hidcote (if that's what it is) but instead give it an early tidy up and let it make some nice chunky growth in readiness for next year. Even without flower (it may send up some late stems) it will look smart. Just checking - Hidcote is probably one of the darkest, a violet blue, and the natural habit is fairly dwarf. That is what you have?
