I use Irfan View or Paint.NET, which are both freeware & easy to use
Free downloads can be found over the net.
To save use 'save as', add -1 to the end of the file name & press save. Then before close the editor program, simply click on the undo button & you'll have bothe the original & the modified stored. Also, it is important to make sure that it is saved in the JPEG format.

Question before giving any help. Are your pictures taken with a camera or a 'mobile phone?
If with a camera, which one and, did you get a disc with the camera?
Normally on the CD which comes with a camera there are included programs for manipulating your pictures after saving them on your computer.

When this happens to me, I open the picture in paint and then click on 'image' and then 'resize' which opens up a dialogue box to change the size of the picture and then you can shrink it and that works for me...hope this helps.

The Free version of Paint which comes with W 7 does not have that option. Is yours the one which comes in XP Karen? I could check but it involves turning on the old machine .

Using W Vista Home Premium at the moment.

Even harder for me to check that one. Would need to disconnect this machine and reconnect the less old one.

LOL! Don't you just hate it when that happens!!

Me too Karen and if happy with your present system then apologies but Picasa does what your doing automatically by clicking the export tab under each pic as you edit.
It will keep your original pics unaltered and only edited ones in an export file which are automatically compressed .It enables you to save all pics in an export file ready for submission and is particularly useful if preparing a blog or submitting several pics at once.
You dont have to change what you re doing now if you prefer it but might be worth a look ? Its free to download and regularly updates with newer versions.

The advantage that I find from using Irfan View & Paint.NET is that I dictate the size of the resample (ie; I type in 80%).
Deviating slightly, does anyone know of any good tutorials out there for colour adjustment - I've tried several programs & just can't do it. I can only get there eventually by changing my camera settings.

Previous question
Think we ve all had this problem Mageth at one time so sure everyone will be kind ..not sure which photo editing suite you use but most should have an export photo file at bottom of pic your editing.
I use Picasa which automatically compresses pics and places them under an export file.I then go to this file to open and submit edited pics onto Goy.
If you do not have Picasa it can be downloaded free and believe me I m no IT buff either so if I managed it ..good luck.
