I have a 20 yr old Gunnera doing very well and very tall. I would like to divide it and plant another only 6' away, the aim is to have a Victorian tunnel ( correct term? Like Trebah) Hoping somebody can help.

Quick, take him up on his offer, it'll be a mighty battle, tales of which will be told round the fire for generations to come.
Spring time, as it's damaged by cold, so try then, taking basal cuttings with leaf buds showing. Need some huge pots!

Spring, as Worthy has said, is the ideal time. I know this by moving a friends - when digging it out it split into 6 different cuttings of different sizes (some bad spading on my behalf). To my surprise all took and that was in Feb this year and are all pumping out large leaves.
