Propagation of herbaceous clematis.

I have a lovely one called Alan Bloom and was wondering if any one on here has had success in propagating it. when how etc. I don't want to start 'hacking at it' if I'm not going to be successful.
thanks in advance.

Can be done the same way as Climbing ones, with internodal cuttings taken about now. As hard to get to root as they are though. You are supposed to be able to remove rooted stems from the plant, but I have never had any success doing that. The pieces always die.
Straight species ones can of course be done from fresh seed.
