Help!
I have a type of palm in my garden.
No idea the name or care maintenance for it.
This summer, a treelike branch grew from centre and flowered.
Not sure what to do with it now all the flowers have gone?
Do I cut the branch off from centre... or leave it?
Currently palm is about 6ft in height.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Claire.

Thank you for your advice worthy1 :)
Will make sure I cover it come winter.
Do you know how tall they grow?
Also, is flowering at 6ft a bad sign then?

Where I grew up they were up to 40ft. Flowering at 6ft isn't a problem. It just means it felt it was mature enough.

Cordyline australis, New Zealand cabbage tree. There are a few varieties, and all are prone to frost damage in winter, especially if water collects in the crown and then freezes. There will advice for you if you need it come November time. The flowers should have been sweetly scented. Just be pleased you've got a nice looking one that's performing for you. If the flowers are over, yes, you can cut off the stem at its base. Usually they are a bit taller than that before they flower.
