We have a problem with brown jelly- like algae (a bit like seaweed) which apparently came in with the gravel. Any ideas on how to destroy it..weedkiller has no effect!

Moss/algae killer should work, but it won't cure it permanently, it'll be an ongoing problem during damp periods of weather. Improving drainage beneath would solve the problem, but that's probably not an option. Bleach or household soda will also work, but both may discolour the gravel, and any surrounding planted areas may get run off from it, which won't be good.
