I have a small garden and I scattered various seeds in a plot and have a decent variety of flowers. There is a plant
that has grown that looks more like a small tree and I would be grateful if you could tell me what it is. I enclose some photos

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SPEEDY REPLY. YOU COULD WELL BE RIGHT. SINCE TAKING THOSE PHOTOS THE PLANTS ARE NOW ABOUT SIX FT TALL AND STILL NOT FLOWING.

IF THEY DO FLOWER I WILL SEND A NEW PHOTO. MEANWHILE, THANKS AGAIN

From the size... 6 foot, I would say it was a sunflower too. It should flower soon though so please let us know.

Hi Myron,
Many thanks for your reply. I will certainly let you know when, and if, the plant flowers.

You'll be able to save the seeds for bird food - or just leave them on the plant and let the birds find them.

Thanks for your reply to my query. I always save the seeds and most of them I use as seedlings.

Sod the birds Steragram, they've got the worms, caterpillars and maggots ;o)

Eat the seeds as they are, sprinkle them in salads or use them in baking, you'll have loads of them.

What I used to do was give all the children in the street one to grow and award a prize to the one that grew the biggest Sunflower. I stopped doing it because it got so competitive and people started to resolve to cheating, skullduggery and sabotage. This was from their PARENTS.

Myron,

Thanks for your message. Very good idea but a shame that it turned out the way it did.

Incidentally this is the first time I've tried gardening at my late age so everything is new. All I wanted to do was add a little colour to the garden so at the moment it's all "suck it an see"

Thats all very well Myron but its such a fiddle getting each little seed out of its hard case - the birds seem to do it so much more easily...

Haha, I suppose we could compromise and share them with the birds, but think of it this way... if we plant most of the seeds and grow sunflowers it benefits everyone. We have lovely plants to enjoy, the bees have their food, it helps get rid of the toxins in the air and we have thousands more seeds to give the birds. Then we can plant most of the seeds and grow sunflowers....
