Or i you have, or know someone who has pigs, give them the acorns, pigs love them, Derek.

It seems like a waste of all that potential food energy in Acorns to just throw them away. You could go for a walk in the woods, push a few into the ground here and there so that they might grow into oak trees. Scatter a few around while you're at it for the squirrels in the winter. Also, crush them up and feed them to the birds.

Okay, thank you. I'm thinking maybe I should store them and put them in some non squirrel proof bird feeders over winter to keep the squirrels entertained and me !

Sorry Peanuts birds wont eat acorns.

Sorry to disagree MG, but Jays, crows, pigeons, quail, grosbeaks, grouse, woodpeckers, white breasted nuthatches and some ducks are among the many birds that will eat acorns.

They may Myron but when did you last see a the birds you mention eating from bird feeders? Re-reading Peanuts response he is actually hoping the squirrels will eat from the feeders - suspect they will prefer the peanuts myself.

But your statement was "birds wont eat acorns", when a lot of them obviously do. And I didn't mention putting them in a bird feeder.

No Peanuts did... and I missed the bit about them being for the squirrels.

You said, "Sorry Peanuts birds wont eat acorns", I pointed out that a lot of birds do. You said, "when did you last see a the birds you mention eating from bird feeders?". I said, "I didn't mention putting them in a bird feeder". Have a look at all the comments on this question. I can't see where Peanuts said this.

Sadly I doubt that they would rot down quickly. Grind them up, roast and wash in running water overnight and you have got Acorn flour ready for eating!
