When can i prune my climbing hydrangea, it has an overhang of two feet and I would like to cut it right back but still have flowers the following year. Also when can I prune my acer

Pruning Hydrangea anomala usually just consists of frequency - in other words, trimming back growth which is coming away from the wall that you don't want. It is, though, too late in the year to prune back as much as you want to now. As you now need to take off so much, this is best done after flowering next year.
You can prune your Acer between now and the end of December.
