Prune all stone fruit in the summer Sewingkilla. This will prevent silver leaf disease from entering which could happen in the winter. Do you have much fruit on your tree? I had a Victoria Plum where I hung weights on the branches to weigh them down. This really encourages the tree to fruit well.

thanks Heather we had soo much fruit last year i couldn't keep up with it, made plum jam and plum chutney and froze some and gave loads away to neighbours and friends as well as eating them fresh of course!!! they are a lovely plum but they were quite small last year and the tree is getting 'leggy' so thanks for that will do it this year.
