Any good tips for growing Eucomis Bicolour ?
I have never grown Eucomis before but thought that they might be interesting in a tub, they have an exotic look to them. Will they benefit from a bit of shade ?

They need a large pot since the bulb gets to be the size of a grapefruit. Also, during the winter, you won't be able to leave them outside. Be sure the bulbs are completely covered with dirt since slugs find them very tasty. Really - after the foliage and flower stem die down, cover the hole or slugs move in. All you need is one per vase.

I have had mine planted 3-4" deep in the garden for the last 3 years. I originall sat them on a layer of grit to help drainage. I am still hoping that they will have survived the winter . I will know better in May when they first show their noses above ground.

No, they come from South Africa and need all the sun they can get. Also a well-drained soil as they do not like to sit in waterlogged conditions. In cold areas, they will benefit from a mulch in winter to keep the worst of the frost at bay. If you are growing them in a pot, I suggest adding lots of grit to the potting mix to give good drainage
