Are Euonymus susceptible to vine weevil? Just noticed my small Silver Queen is thoroughly chomped with holes of various sizes and shapes - a few are vine weevil type holes but by no means most. Never happened before.

I recall some years ago several euonymus rooted cuttings in small pots being attacked by vine weevil so it appears they are susceptible

Oh dear. What do I do abut it? Is it a go out with a torch and a white sheet job?

Yes the adults like to eat the leaves but have not found that the more destructive grubs like them. Slugs and caterpillars also like a chew of Euonymous.

I can certainly vouch for that, Kildermorie. My Euonymus with a white varigation nearly died this year but not the yellow varigant ones. Then I realised that the white one was right by a buddlejah. Provide a meal for mum and they take a nearby plant as a nursery.

It was grubs in my pots not adults.

There are various treatments organic and inorganic but the inorganic ones need temperatures above about 6c (nematodes) Try googling "Vine weevil treatments"

Thanks everybody. Maybe I should do a little explore round the roots just in case. I have been dithering about moving it before it gets any bigger so maybe now's the time to think some more about it! Probably getting a bit late in the year for nematodes and we are advised not to use Provado in the ground. Vine weevils are nobody's favourite creature, poor things!
Are they fond of Buddlejas Saraceniac?

I don't think so. None of my Buddlejahs have ever been bothered by anything I can think of. Our Australian friend who comes round to give a (big) hand in the garden goes potty though when she sees them covered with butterflies, but she is a great brassica fan.

I thought there must be a connection when you mentioned the Euonymus was near to one.

I see I'm Iciar again - thought it had stopped doing that.

How do I say thanks?
