Interesting Andrew I've always understood them to be semi-shade plants. That is certainly how they are grown in great drifts at Inverewe.

Mine are in sun and seem happy enough. As I always say, plants can't read so will grow where they are happy

Mine are in sun too but do suffer a little in really hot summers.I have to keep them well watered.

Think I'll stick with ours being in semi-shade... though in reality very little of our garden could be described as being in 'full sun'.
