Magnolia seed ??? I've noticed these on my magnolia, are they really a seed ? I've only got two and didn't notice any last year. Any advice ?

Yes those are seed heads.

Sow when ripe, leave for cold stratification. Watch out for rodent pests.

Soak the seeda for 12 hours in warm water if you find seeds floating on the top discard them as they are no good - the soaking also allows you to remove the orange outer coating on them - then you need to plant in a pot of moist vermiculite and seal the pot and place into the fridge for 6 month checking now and then to make sure it has not dried out (keep it moist) -- remove in the spring and plant into pots with a good potting compost - Ken
