Can I still prune with hard frost on the way?

As Ken says, it depends what you're pruning. Some plants are fine, or even best, being pruned in winter.

Here, in the north of Scotland at least, we are forcast for our first blast of winter starting tonight and lasting for a fortnight. Given this information I would not prune today but wait until this weather event has finshed and then prune during a milder period.

A lot of people prefer to do roses in March and just shorten the stems in late autumn.

You never said what you wish to prune - or is this a Guessy game for us lol - all trees etc have a different recommended time to prune - even various typs of rose bushes - below is a general rule of thumb --
Roses - do in late autumn when flowers have faded
Plums - Do in the early spring (avoid winter pruning)
Apples / Pears - Between autumn and spring 9when you feel fit enough to do it - lol -- Ken
