Hello: Can you please tell me what kind of tree this is? I discovered it growing in Riverside Park in New York City. It was a traffic stopper. Thanks

Looks like a Betula of some sort to me too, you could google
images and see if one looks similar

First impression is ginkgo biloba, that bright yellow leaf colour is distinctive. The trunk doesn't look birch like to me.

Aren't ginko leaves a lot bigger Hortum? The trunk isn't silver birch but the leaves do look like some sort of birch don't you think? A closup of them would be very helpful if poss.

Could it be a Honey locust tree, Gleditsia triacanthos. Can you remember how the leaves are arranged?

I'd need glasses to get closer. Leaf detail is beyond me! The trunk isn't birch, it's got strong striations in the bark. Gleditsia is a possibility with that trunk, and they do colour well when conditions are right.

A clear photo of leaf bark and twig would help

I'm voting for an old Ginkgo, myself. Bark, branching habit, leaf color, and the way they're held on the twigs all agree with that. I also agree with Pam, though.

Thanks everybody for your input. I think you and Hortum cret are correct Tugbrethil. The leaves are "fan" shaped like the Ginkgo - and the bark, color and growth habit all agree with Ginkgo. Thanks.

Glad that's sorted then. You can't see the shape of the leaves on the photo.

Thank you for letting us know Bathgate. It is a beauty.

Thanks Steragram and Scotsgran. When you mentioned Ginko, I googled it and that was the exact tree. The leaves, bark, color, growth habit all agreed with that tree. I'll remember next time to post more pictures. Yes, this is a real beauty. I think the conditions were just right to bring out the most brilliant autumn color. Thanks
