The Snakes-Head Fritillaria is a meadow bulb enjoying semi-shade in cool, moist soil. It is not a difficult bulb at all. It gets its name because, as the flower stem first develops, it leans over and lays the bud on the soil looking rather like the head of a snake. Within a few days the stem straightens up to about eighteen inches tall
