Broad Beans...growing for the first time on our newly acquired allotment. Any tips appreciated. We have planted Aquadulce Claudia from seed/and they are about 2 inches tall already. Do I need to cover them?
Thanks

Up here, Moray, we don't even try to grow autumn planted beans.

Nope neither do we plant onion sets or garlic in autumn - waste of time.

Thanks, the onions and garlic are growing, so I will take advise and cover beans with a cloche. :-)

Sorry I disagree Snoop - where we live there is absolutely no sense in sowing board beans in autumn. They simply sit and rot in the ground. You need to live south of Hadrian's Wall I suspect to do so :-)

Oops sorry Snoop - misread!

And Yorkshire is south of Hadrians wall, but not so far south that early planting is worth trying. But the beans are already 2" high so worth trying to preserve them. Don't hold your breath though Andrea.
