I have a north facing garden with a high wall to the west side. The garden is very windy and is prone to flooding and becoming water logged by the wall. What can I grow along this wall to provide some screening and some shelter? The wall is about 20ft long and 6ft high.

To be honest, I can't think of anything that would survive those conditions - the roots would rot of any climbers or screening shrubs.
Is it possible to improve the drainage there, either by a french drain, or pipes, or else by digging in loads of grit and organic material?
