my hollyhocks grown from seed last autumn have very healthy top growth but very few roots, how do I encourage root growth

I don't think you need worry about it if the tops are growing nicely, though I'll admit I'm curious as to how you know there are "very few roots". Plant them out if you haven't already, as long as they're hardened off.
