My friend has bought an indoor miniature Canna that had lovely dark purple flowers last summer. It has died back during the winter. What should she do to bring it into growth?

Turn it out of its pot and inspect the corm - if its healthy, repot, move to a bright warm place and water. If the corm is too large, it can be split and the parts potted up separately. Seems a bit odd it died during the winter, I'd have thought it would have kept its leaves indoors.
