when do I prune - and how hard can I cut back?

On plant Syringa vulgaris

Answers

Prune after flowering. You can cut it back to 6inches if necessary! But you'll lose flowers for a year or too. Generally, just trim back any branches that are too long or growing in the wrong direction.
