Has any one ever known a bean called a Pea/Bean which is a cross between a broadbean and a pea.I have just obtained some seed from a 90 year old gentleman who has grown them for years. The seed is not obtainable and has to be saved each year.

I have never seen one but I think you may mean Irish Preans?
Peas (Pisum sativum) are only distantly related to broad beans (Vicia faba) and such "wide crosses" between disparate species are rare and therefore very difficult to do. I suspect you may end up with a pea or a broad bean as this is an urban myth?

This is a broad bean that is very small, but has a taste similar to peas.

I Think Doctorbob is correct. Is it not generally used as animal feed and available from agricutural suppliers?

We grow a plant called a Pea bean, seed supplied by Kings. Young ones, it is the pod which is eaten like a French or Runner bean. However, you may leave the pods to get bigger and eat the beans like broad beans. They taste a bit like French beans to be honest.

How do I say thanks?
