I have chrysanthemums in my garden which flowered last autumn, but they look dead now, will they flower again this year or do i need to cut them back?

Cut them back to near ground level, if the severe frosts in your area are over. Be careful, because new shoots may be emerging. They can take light frost, but not much below -4 deg. C. Now also would be a good time to consider support for the growing plants, maybe "planting" some dead branching sticks that they can grow up through for a natural look.
