we have a large grassed area on a very steep incline its very difficult to cut and very time consuming. what could we put there to save time and money.we are on the sea front so we have very windy weather

Agree with bulbaholic, though not sure about the membrane - one of the cotoneasters, called C. 'Queen of Carpets' gives a very dense, wide spreading ground cover, once it gets going, but doesn't cope with a membrane - it roots as it goes, and it can't do this if there's a membrane down. Its evergreen and has berries, only gets about 2 inches high, spread indefinite

Good point, B, they do root as they go along. The membrane idea was to save weeding until the plants get established.

I realise that Bulbaholic, and it does suppress the weeds, but there's always this problem of plants that root as they go to consider - bit of a knotty one, really - definitely between a rock and a hard place, lol

Previous question
You could consider some of the ground-hugging shrubs such as conifers and some cotoneaster. It might be necessary to lay a weed proof membrane first.
