There are some very pretty little Hebes (evergreen) in pink shades around at the moment. They'd look great in your containers with some annuals for the summer, then you could replace the summer flowers with winter pansies or violas in the autumn. with mini-bulbs (Tete a Tete Narcissi and crocuses for example) in the containers ready for next spring.

Garden Centres will have lots of summer plants in soon - but don't plant the annuals out yet, they need a few more weeks.

Climbers - look at Clematis, and get ones that aren't vigorous - you can get C. alpina or macropetala to flower within the next few weeks, then others to flower in the summer, and finally, C. viticella or C. texensis for late summer into autumn. Don't go for C. montana, it's far too vigorous!! There are also lots that have been bred specially to go in containers. A non-vigorous climbing rose would be lovely, too.
