How To Prune A Hedge ?
I have an Escallonia hedge and i'd like to know if i should remove the thin branches that grow 'across' the plants ?

I've only ever reduced the height and width of it, but would it look better or worse if removed all thin whippy 'crossing' stems that grow from the main, thick, stems ?
(The thick stems would only ever get the reduction in height)

I would do it after it has flowered Louise, when you may be reducing the height and the width. It would look better if you remove the thin branches, but as said do it after flowering.
