Hi trees,
At a very good talk by an allotment grower recently I heard that magpies also threaten these, and can strip them bare. So netting sounds advisable. The other thing is our book said not to grow more than one variety together - ? Good luck anyway, we planted some like this but very few came up, so seeds disappointing. Will have to bin and start again if we're not to miss the right time as we did last year. Have you heard that they should be "knee-high by the 4th of July"? That one made me smile.

I like you are growing mine in modules. When they get to about 4-6" tall then I will plant them also in my raised bed. I will just dig a hole about a hands width deep and place them in.
In a block formation like you say.
I will also throw a peice of netting over them to keep the pidgeons away.
