while in my local market garden centre, yesterday, I found a very uncared for aspidistra.
they repotted it, and charged me £6.
It has a lovely shape, and about 30 leaves, BUT they are so pale,
how can I restore this lovely plant to its former fame?

aspidestra are happier in shade so if it has been in strong light that could be why it is pale. A good feed will help too.

We have a jeweller near to us who has a really old fashioned shop. Right in the middle is a huuuuge old aspidestra, completely in the shade. It is in a really big pot that matches its old Victorian stand. It looks completely healthy. I reckon its older than the proprietor and I think he's in his eighties.

Go and buy some Baby Bio plant food, feed according to the instructions on the bottle. And Nosey, you are right, a lot of houseplants get pale and wan looking from not enough light - but Aspidistra isn't one of them!

Maybe foliar feeds with a good brand of correctly diluted liquid fertiliser, while you wait for the new potting soil to take effect.
