I have a potted date palm which I brought last year, unfortunately I didn't protect it over winter and now it is completely brown and dead-looking. It still seems firmly rooted in the pot but there is no green colour to it at all. Is it dead?

Give it another month or two. If it's still alive, there will be green shoots from the center as the weather warms. Phoenix dactylifera can also produce shoots from the base, but P. canariensis never does this. Good luck, Ninja!
