when can i prune my butterfly bush and how harsh can you prune it

I do mine end of Feb, beginning of March. Cut it back quite low....if it's a youngish one, then down to 1ft, or if it's a knarlly old one like mine then it'll be higher up. Just cut back the long stems to a couple of healthy looking shoots down near the base. I use my Budleja prunings to make wigwams to grow climbers up :-)

It works well and l think looks far nicer than bamboo - although of course they do not last as long as bamboo. l did mention this on here before and one person said they found that the sticks kept rooting!! I've not had that problem, but I have mine stacked up in the corner for a couple of months before use, so maybe that's why.
