Pruning A Daphne.
I've got D. odora 'Aureomarginata', had it planted for about 3 years and as it looked quite leggy, i pruned it.
This didn't encourage it to bush out from anywhere, at all, so i've still got a leggy but less stemmed plant :-(
How can i make it bushier ?

There must be different forms then as the only D odorata etc. we have is an upright bush of about a metre high and wide. It sadly does not seem to take kindly to pruning. All we have ever done is to remove the non variegated branches when they appear.

Moon grower, sorry, have i just given the wrong name for it ? It is indeed a taller one than yours.
It's not taken at all kindly to it Owdboggy :-(((
It appears i've destined it for an ill fate and i could kick myself very hard.

Louise no I did not read the cultivar name as OwdB says this one is upright but still does not like to be pruned. Have you made sure it has a cool root run?

It doesn't :-(((
It's in a sunbaked position.
I've just read aswell, that it hates root disturbance, so hiding it somewhere or potting it seems unsuitable ...... i don't know what to do with it ...... it's now a spindly, unattractive, two stemmed 'thing', that's not nice to look at and the more i see it, the more i dislike it :-(
If only i'd not removed all those stems :-((((((((((

Louise sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and dig something out...

I think i'll end up doing just that, Moon Grower :-(

Hi Louise
D odora isn't a bushy daphne, it trails across the ground. In our garden we have it tumbling down a small rock wall where it looks wonderful and the perfume is amazing!
